Cold Temps Won’t Stop Good Produce

The Coppell Farmers Market (CFM) is open year-round and the abbreviated winter schedule begins in December. Farmers and food producers will offer a delightful variety of vegetables and seasonal specialties up to the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving, and then all winter long.

Now is the time to consider how CFM artisans, farmers and ranchers can add a unique flavor to your holiday celebrations. Rehoboth Ranch is preselling pastured turkey for pickup on November 18th, and many artisans are taking preorders for fabulous, ready-to-eat party favorites and gifts, like: Empa Mundo’s traditional Argentinian empanadas and Hot Apple Pie flavored cookies from Wackym’s Kitchen.

We asked vendor and French pastry chef Joe Baker (owner of Joe the Baker) about the fanciful treats he’ll create this holiday season. Here’s what CFM shoppers can expect:

“I will be bringing peppermint bark, chocolate truffles, seasonal macarons, quick breads, and ready-to-bake pizza dough”

Stop by Joe Baker’s booth to order holiday “pies, piecakens, custom cakes, dinner rolls, and cinnamon rolls”. Ask about his “treat towers”, they may be the perfect corporate gift.

The Coppell Farmers Market is a seasonal farmers market. Later this November shoppers will notice that summer squashes and eggplant are no longer. To protect cool weather crops from frost many of our growers have planted in greenhouses and use a special agricultural fabric out in their fields. They’ll pick produce through the winter months.

Instead, find just-harvested sweet potatoes, greens, and ginger root. Some farmers will harvest late-planted tomatoes during the first two-three weeks of the month, and this season’s pecans will arrive near the month’s end.

From December through March the Coppell Farmers Market is open two Saturdays each month: December 2 & 16, January 13 & 27, February 10 & 24, and March 10 & 24. The weekly schedule begins again in April.
