Teen Perspective on the Coppell Farmer’s Market

On my family’s weekend agenda there is always the Coppell Farmers Market. I have always looked forward to this event since I was little. I have seen it change and develop into the center of a blossoming community. I have always loved this family outing because it brings us together through fresh produce and delicious pastries. My sister and I crave the decadent chocolate croissants that we always get at the Farmers Market. I love the Farmers Market because it gives off the sense of community and family. I love seeing the smiling faces of the vendors because they truly love what they do.
I wanted to be a part of this family, and I wanted to share the love of doing something for the community. My best friend shared my same desire and we decided to start our new business. We were two eager fourth graders going head first into the business community.
We first sat down and discussed what we could make by ourselves to sell at the Farmers Market. We came to the conclusion that many bring their dogs to the Farmers Market, so we decided to sell dog treats. We found a recipe online and started working right away. We told our parents and, surprisingly, they agreed. We told our neighbors and soon orders were flowing in. I never realized how hard a business is. I had to juggle school, friends, and work as a fourth grader. Once we seemed to get the hang of if it my Dad signed us up at the Farmers Market.
It was one of the best experiences of my life. We had so much fun seeing people buy our homemade treats. I finally realized why all the venders smiled at the Farmers Market. Seeing smiles on people’s faces when buying your product is truly satisfying because of all the love and hard work you put into it.
Today, I am in high school and I no longer sell treats but I still go to the Farmers Market and I enjoy the love and sense of community there. I am truly grateful for my community to have a market that is made up of Texas producers who love making fresh products and growing fresh produce for the community.
The CFM is open this Saturday and will return the second and fourth Saturdays, including February 14 and 28, and March 14 and 28. Hours remain 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine (but not ice) at 768 W. Main Street in Old Town Coppell.
