This Saturday, September 24th, the Coppell Farmers Market will host a make-and-take planting activity for children along with the regularly scheduled garden time. Participants will be awarded a $5.00 voucher to spend at the CFM on vegetables and fruits! The activity will take place at 10:30am at the CFM Learning Garden, which is located beneath the flag pole and near the splash pad.
This activity is part of an educational series for kids called the Power of Produce (POP) Club. The program is grant funded by The Farmers Market Coalition and Chipotle, and is made up of three main components: 1. Supporting healthy food choices, food awareness, and a healthy lifestyle through educational activities each week 2. Encouraging children to try new, healthy foods; and 3. Giving children market currency to spend on fresh produce each week they attend the farmers market.
The POP Club will meet weekly during What’s Growing, the farmers market’s garden time for kids, from now until October 15th (Food Day for Kids). What’s Growing begins at 10:30am and wraps up around 11:00am, and is located at the Coppell Farmers Market Learning Garden. In addition, some extra special activities have been scheduled:
Saturday, Sept. 24, 10:30-11:15: Planting Activity
Saturday, Oct. 15, 10:30-11:15: Scavenger Hunt
Children must sign up to participate and will receive $5 in Coppell Farmers Market money for each activity they complete. The dollars must be spent on produce and fruit. Participants will have the opportunity to earn a voucher each week, and they can be redeemed until October 31st.
