Coming back to the Coppell Farmers Market

By Janet Rensmeyer, Farmers Market Committee Member

“What keeps me coming back to the Coppell Farmers Market?”

I was asked this question recently and it made me smile and laugh. My first thoughts were: the market is pretty, full of colors, freshness of the outdoors, people chatting, and everyone is smiling and enjoying the morning. It’s a social time in the community. I always see friends and neighbors. It started to become a part of my world on a weekly basis.

I like to come early with my coffee cup and refill it at the Market table in the center of the pavilion during my trip. With coffee usually comes my visit to the Village Baker for my flavor of the day whether it’s a cinnamon brioche or a yummy chocolate croissant to savor that morning or get extras for a Sunday treat.

The freshness of the produce and the friendly farmers, who work so hard to bring this all to our small community, make me want to support their great efforts week after week.

I have certainly eaten healthier this year and I’m trying new foods. Any time I don’t know a vegetable the farmer is always happy to share his recipe with me. It’s like the first time I ever had collards. Not growing up with them, I had no clue what they tasted like or how to cook them. David Fisher told me his recipe and I went home that weekend and cooked ‘em up . They were delicious and I’ve become a new “collard” customer.

As a resident in Coppell, we are so lucky to have these great farmers bring their local produce to our town. Come down this Saturday morning and get your day kicked off! The winter market continues on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays through March, weekly markets resume in April.
